It is located in the village of Atsana, on Okona Mountain. Archeological traces in the monastery are dated from the 9th century. Renovated in 1897, Okona Church existed only for a 35 years and after it was blown up in 1932 by the Soviet authorities.

In 2010 the construction of a new temple began on the same place of the old church.
